The Conference of the Professional Yiddish Actors
Union in Poland August 25-27, 1925 part 1 |
|
On the evening of Tuesday, the 25th of August in Warsaw, the seventh delegates conference of the Yiddish Artists in Poland opened. The meeting took place during extremely difficult conditions for the Yiddish theatre in Poland. Besides the general crisis, at every step, all manner of thorns are laid on the equally difficult path for Yiddish theatre. There is a calculated and systematic struggle, the results are truly horrific: a complete catastrophe in Warsaw and in the rest of the cities of Poland of the Yiddish theatre, a proposal and despair among the Yiddish artists and a neglect in all the theatrical performances. It's all over, and it's hard even at the moment to reject or accuse someone. The meeting must find a way out of the accursed situation; It will certainly relieve the heavy heart and jointly try to combat the current difficult situation. We wish for you, the Artists Conference, a blessing and success. There are no words of comfort. It is necessary to have the strength and endurance to overcome the difficult times -- and this has always been sufficient and satisfying for the Yiddish artists. |
