Testimony
"Hymie was born on 9 November 1895 in Chicago, America. His
parents were Yiddish actors. He finished public and high school.
As a four-year-old child,
with his parents, he began to act in children's roles in
Cincinnati, and as such acted until he reached the age of
fifteen. His first role as an adult was at the Arch Street
Theatre in Philadelphia (1917) as the comedian in the play "Fabia
romani."
In 1918 he acted at the
People's Theatre. In 1919-20 he was a buff-comedian at the
Second Avenue Theatre. In 1921 he played at Thomashefsky's
National Theatre, in 1927 at the Public Theatre, in 1928-9
in Boston, and in 1929-30 he was in Chicago ..."
