In Honor of Our Dear Molly
Her Silver Anniversary in the Theatre

A TRIBUTE

by Dora Weissman

Their weary faces pleas for aid,
They've faced life's battles unafraid,
Have won art's triumphs, carved their names
On Fortune's Portals, in bright flames.
Their glories shine from yesteryear,
But now the winter blasts of fear
Congeal their hearts, and sick with sorrows
They foresee only black tomorrows.

Applause, acclaim, success are o'er,
The voice that thrilled can sing no more,
The art that moved our hearts to tears
Is timeless, though the toll of years
Renders its Vestals weak and lame
Our glory to recall their fame,
Ours the privilege to unfold
The Banners that they used to hold,
Ours the gift to give to them
Surcease in the world of men.

Among those ready to stand by
Is one who answers their every cry
To our war-torn world of strife
This blessed artist gives her life
To make the nights and days more fair
For the oppressed here, and everywhere
She is the first to answer her country's call
Entertaining soldiers, sailors, one and all.

For this, Molly Picon, we honor you tonight
Long may you live, may your star shine ever bright.
