The Probes of 1932
The Hebrew Actors' Union had the foresight to film one of their famed "probes," and I am fortunate enough to be able to present you with photos of some of the action!
Here you will
be treated to a number of photographs taken of scenes from a
film short, "The Hebrew Actors' Union 1932," which takes us into
the Hebrew Actors' Union building on East 7th Strreet during a
probe, which consisted of auditions made by candidates for
membership in the Union. Although the quality of the images
aren't great, you will nevertheless enjoy seeing the seemingly
boundless excitement and comraderie, not only of the candidates,
but also of the attendees who apparently loved the opportunity
to get together with their colleagues, to play with each other,
to smile, to laugh with each other. Perhaps you will get your
own sense of how it was to be at one of these probes, nearly
ninety years ago .... |

More smiles, laughs and applause by the

It sure looks like candidate Michael
Rosenberg (on the left). Doesn't it? |

After the probes. Who is that with
Charlie Cohan (on right, with a cigar)? |
Perhaps Louie Goldstein on the left; Itzik Feld, front with mouth agape; Marty Baratz, profile in the back on the right. |

That's Irving Jacobson on the left, who
just gave a smooch |
Who are they? |
Who is posing in front of the portrait
of Jacob P. Adler? |
Louie Goldstein is in the back, on the
right with a tie, but who are the others? |
